Remember:
Keep in mind that the main reason to contact a civil service department would usually be to express interest in an entry level (Class I or Class II Special Law Enforcement Officer or Dispatcher position. To become a Regular Full Time Police Officer, you must register with the NJ Department of Personnel and take their Entry Level Law Enforcement Exam when it is offered. (Usually every two years) Therefore, specifically writing these agencies to express desire for a Full Time Police Officer position, is not suggested!)
For the spreadsheets in the categories of College/Universities, State Agencies, Park Police, County Police, Multi State agencies, and Military agencies, you should treat them mostly as Civil Service category agencies. There are some that hire through chief’s discretion, very similar to Chief’s Towns where the hiring process is conducted by the agency according to the chief’s policies as needs arise. Your best bet is to research each agency, then send a more personalized and specific letter of interest. For this reason, we do not include agencies in these categories for this service. However, it is highly recommended that you do contact them!
